Scart can do S-Video and RGB and also component (not both RGB and component at the same time) provided the cable has all pins connected. RGB/Component gives by far the highest picture quality provided the source and destination scart is capable of using it. Usually only one scart on a TV is RGB capable with component handled by 5 RCA phono sockets.
You'll need a scart to HDMI converter. Just a cable is unlikely to work, but there are a number of converters available here. Check the details to make sure that it's the right way round, that is, scart input to HDMI output, not the other way round. They're not interchangeable.
My best guess is you got the wrong converter. You want hdmi > SCART, not SCART > hdmi. Active converters are usually not reversible; they only work one way. The PC has hdmi out, monitor has SCART in. So your converter should have an hdmi input and scart output. Thanks for the reply! Yeah now you mention it.
Need help, totally thick when it comes to tvs.. Got a smart tv with scart and hdmi ports. When watching you tube scart to scart i have no surround sound, but do with normal tv. Thought if i bought a scart to hdmi converter it might work but it doesnt. Not technical minded, but slowly losing the will.. any ideas please
There is absolutely nothing to be gained by connecting the SCART to the same TV as the HDMI. And even less point replacing HDMI with SCART. Not if you want to watch HD programmes in full HD. You could connect the SCART to a separate DVD recorder, for example, if you so wished. It should work alongside the HDMI to the TV OK.
What I'm thinking is using the remaining Scart socket, with an In/Out Scart to RCA adapter, and an RCA lead, i'm thinking that after looking up info on the TV, the Scarts are detailed CVBS In/Out. Any help, or suggestions will be very welcome, thanks in anticipation of your replies.

1. Your new TV doesn't have an analogue tuner. If that's the case, it won't work with your current coax cable setup. 2. Your Sky box's RF Output Channel is set to the default 68. Most new TVs won't tune above channel 50 because the channels above that have been reassigned for other purposes. You would need to change the RF Output Channel
Firstly connect these cables to the DVD player by using the output sockets. You need to make sure to add a red AV cable in the red port, a white AV cable in the white port, and a yellow AV cable in the yellow port. Insert the other end of these AV cables into the TV on its input sockets while following the same color – coded technique.
